5 Valentine’s Day gifts that will move you

It’s normal for us to fall back on the ol’ box of choccies for Valentine’s Day or spoil our loved one with an indulgent and often expensive dinner out. This year, try swapping your glad rags for active wear and give your beloved the gift of movement instead.

There’s no better way to celebrate your relationship with the one that you love than with a good old fashioned endorphin release. No, I don’t mean THAT kind of release! Or do I…?

Make the most of our beautiful summer weather this Valentine’s Day and seek out an exciting and active experience for you to share as a couple.

This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday. Hump day is a perfect day to take off work. So go crazy, make a day of it. Otherwise, there’s always the weekend!

Here’s a few Valentine’s Day gift ideas that will get you and you Valentine moving.

#1: Fitness and food fest

Spoil your loved one with a personalised personal training session at Upwell, followed by a stunning remedial or relaxation massage. Round out your morning of movement with a healthy (or not) brunch at popular Melbourne eatery The Baker’s Wife, which is just a stone’s throw from our centre on Burke Road.

#2 Stand up paddle boarding

If your beloved is more of a water baby then stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a great option. You can do this together at most beaches in Melbourne including St Kilda, Brighton and Elwood. A group lesson (which I would highly recommend if you haven’t done it before) starts at around $60pp or go private for around $90pp.  Not only is it fun (yes, falling off is all part of the experience) but it’s also a great core strengthening workout.

#3 Yarra River kayak and picnic

How dreamy! Imagine a beautiful paddle down the Yarra followed by a gorgeous picnic along its banks. For tips on how to pack a perfect Valentine’s Day picnic, have a read of this blog I wrote for online experience Red Balloon. Kent from Kayak Melbourne is your go to guy for anything kayaking in Melbourne.

#4 Ride the Capital City Trail

Grab yourself an O-Bike and hit the Capital City Trail starting in the city near Federation Square. Ride out to Abbotsford Convent and grab brunch at one of the many gorgeous café’s there. Having worked up an appetite from your ride, you’ll more than deserve a scrumptious serving.

#5 Take a walk in nature

Get into nature with a lovely hike in the wilderness. And we have so much of it, so close to Melbourne. Think Werribee George State Park or the 1000 steps in the Dandenong Ranges. A stroll outdoors followed by a wonderful lunch is just the ticket to inject some romance back into your life.  And don’t be afraid to throw off your shoes and bask on grass for a few minutes together. You’ll be amazed at how much it brings you back to earth and helps you to remember and appreciate what’s really important in life.

Good health and love being perhaps the two most important things of all.
