Yoga Camberwell

Yoga and meditation classes in Camberwell Melbourne

What is yoga?

Yoga is not all about bending your body into the shape of a pretzel. It is an ancient spiritual practice that is more relevant today than ever before. Yoga’s unique combination of physical postures, breath control and meditation leads to amazing clarity of mind and physical and emotional health. And in our fast-paced, technology-focused world, yoga is a wonderful way to cultivate a happier, healthier and more mindful life.

Yoga is different things to different people. But one great feature of this life-changing practice is that it suits all ages and abilities.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

*Rest and Restore: Melt your day away with this relaxing one-hour class incorporating mostly floor-based restorative yoga and yoga nidra (sleeping) techniques, utilising props for support. A practise delivered in combination with gentle massage and calming aromatherapy to help your body, mind and spirit totally unwind and rejuvenate. Be prepared to float out of Upwell feeling totally relaxed!

  • RESTORATIVE YOGA

    • Restorative Yoga is a very gentle style of yoga where the body is given the opportunity to fully relax and be gently supported by props including bolsters, blankets and blocks. There is very little to no muscle activation in restorative yoga – giving you the opportunity to completely surrender to relaxation while gently lengthening your connective tissues.  Pranayama breathing techniques and meditation is integrated with longer holds in poses to help you quiet your mind and reconnect.

  • YOGA NIDRA

    • Yoga Nidra or “sleep” is a systematic guided meditation that can help you to move into the deepest layers of your unconscious mind – which is where we store our values, beliefs and ideas about life. Yoga Nidra is an opportunity for you to heal on the deepest level. They say that just 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra is equal to four hours of deep restorative sleep.  Yoga Nidra gets you out of your head and loosens body and mental tension and connects you with the stillness inside.

  • WHAT TO WEAR

    • Soft, comfortable clothing that allows you to move and stretch easily is best. Shoes are not worn in class.

  • WHAT TO BRING

    • We supply everything you need from mats to props for support which your teacher will guide you in the use of. You are welcome to bring your yoga mat if you prefer. We recommend bringing along a small towel and water bottle for your own personal use. We have lockers for storage of personal belongings (shoes, keys and wallets etc.) so we recommend to only bring along what you need to the studio and leave large bags at home as this takes away floor space from your fellow yogis.
    • We have searched high and low to source beautiful, ethical and environmentally sustainable yoga props to ensure the very best experience for you with a conscience. Our bolster covers are made from 100% cotton hand-crafted from ethical workshops in India and our yoga blocks are made from eco-friendly cork, which is a renewable resource that is made from the bark of fast-growing cork oak tress. The organic cotton used in the blankets and straps we provide are grown without the use of nasty chemicals which can be harmful to you and the environment.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT

    • We strongly recommend that you arrive at least 10-15 minutes early so you have time to check-in at reception, change, and get settled on your mat. On your first visit, plan to come 15 minutes earlier as we will need to capture new client details, process payments and this will allow you time to meet your teacher. If you are new to yoga at Upwell, please let your teacher know when you arrive that it is your first time at the studio (and/or yoga) and they will discuss what to expect from the class and answer any questions you might have.
    • Our yoga teachers are highly trained and passionate about helping you get the most from your practice so please introduce yourself and ask questions.
    • Please turn off your mobile phone before entering the yoga studio and leave all personal belongings in the shelving unit in the studio. While practicing yoga and meditation please be respectful of those around you and if you must leave the class for any reason, be as quiet as possible.
